KINAESTHETIC AWARENESS CLASS 10/10 REHASH
In the class we began by discussing our current physical pains and whether kinaesthetic awareness class can provide support in how to work with our variant bodies. Tex was discussing compensation, and expressing that she feels, lately, she must reorganize her body and where to put her weight, a "horrible and wonderful place to be." She further expressed finding the balance between focusing her energy somewhere that is weak while, still, not obsessing too much on the issue.
Julia then shared that this whole year she has been considering her center to find out where it really is, and that she feels better in classes through this pursuit.
When we were recalling the last class where we discussed our dance aims, Joao brought up the idea of mapping a personal dance teacher geneology to indicate how information is passed through generation by generation, body by body, and that we are a compilation of all our teacher's input as well as our own reflection, absorption, analyzation, and physicalization. RHYzOME of influences!
Next, we generally talked about why talking about dance is helpful, and concluded that our observations then become more objective. You discussed Steve Paxton, since he was always asking, "Who am I?" thus emphasizing that learning is done by self-exploration, not by copying another or passively allowing yourself to be taught/trained.
